ALSTONVILLE author Wendy Lawrence is a huge advocate for children’s literacy, and that’s why next week she’ll be celebrating International Book Giving Day by handing out copies of her book.
Next Friday, February 14, is the official day of book-giving. To support it, Mrs Lawrence will hand out copies of her book Boo and the Big Storm at Lismore Base Hospital’s children’s ward.
It’s a positive double whammy – not only will the books help the literacy skills of children, but they will also help them learn about wild
life, as that is the subject of Boo and the Big Storm.
Mrs Lawrence will also post copies to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation and give away three signed hardback books on Facebook.

The three best responses will win the books.
International Book Giving Day is fairly new and Mrs Lawrence said she hoped it would grow in popularity.
“The more that people send books, we can only enhance children’s enjoyment and reading ability – and that is so, so important,” she said.
“It’s a very worthwhile thing to be doing.”
